Self-Care Strategies – what do you use in your day to day life? You can’t control what happens in life. You may be going along just fine with everything happening as you had planned, things are perfectly fine and then all of a sudden, you’re feeling anxious, stressed and completely overwhelmed.
All of us have stressful moments from time to time. Life is an ever changing roller coaster ride that we’re all riding on. While we can’t control the circumstances that surround us, we can control how we cope with those circumstances. Today I’m going to share a few self-care strategies to help you focus on yourself, even when times are good.
Maintain Social Support
First and foremost, it doesn’t matter how little time you feel is left in the day or how busy that schedule is during your week. It’s important to maintain social support at all times. Each of you probably has a few friends that are a part of that trusted circle. Don’t just reach out to your friends when times are rough. Be sure to touch base with your friends a few times a week. Getting social with your friends over the phone or during a quick coffee date will help you to maintain a lower stress level.
Get Adequate Sleep
This is the least favorite tip when it comes to self-care strategies. I’m sure you have the same excuses about getting adequate sleep as the rest of us, but it’s a vital component to keeping our brains calm and working properly. Depression, anxiety, and stress sneak in faster when we’re overtired. Do your best to enforce a strict bedtime and wake up time that becomes a regular pattern so that your brain has ample time to recoup from whatever the day has thrown at you.
Stop and Breathe
Whether you take an hour in the bathtub or go for a walk, you need to make time to stop and breathe without anyone around. Some people use this time to read a book, relax in a tub or take a stroll around the neighborhood. Find whatever it is that allows you to pause from the everyday life and just be one with your own thoughts. This is an important part of self-care because it allows you to focus on the most important person in this world, you!
Look at the Challenge
Lastly, if you really want to practice the best strategy for self-care, start looking at stress as a challenge. I know, this may sound weird, but it can work if you’re able to adapt your mind. When circumstances quickly shift causing you to feel stressed out, pause to take a step back and redirect your mind. Think of this circumstance as a challenge you must overcome. This practice works well for the competitive-minded folks who enjoy rising above any challenge.
Put these self-care strategies into practice
Practicing these self-care strategies all year round will help you to remain calm when stress hits. Self-care is a vital part of everyday human life. It’s important you start practicing some of these strategies I shared today so that you can live a happier and healthier life, even when everything feels out of control.
